Saturday was generally a banner day for South Carolina sports—wins for basketball, baseball (x2), and softball—but it was the football program that provided the one bit of sour news. Chauncey Rivers, the 4-star defensive end who committed all the way back in July, flipped to Georgia while attending Junior Day in Athens. Rivers, who was only offered by Georgia three weeks ago, called Georgia his "dream school". Rivers hails from Stephenson High, alma mater of a handful of currently rostered Gamecocks, most notably Mike Davis, and 2015 wide receiver commit Dexter Neal is a teammate of Rivers' at Stephenson.
With almost a year until signing day, we at Garnet and Black Attack would advise you not to lose sleep over or hurl expletives* at a recruit who changed his mind this early. While it's frustrating to lose a guy as talented as Rivers to a division rival, South Carolina shouldn't struggle to reel in a few quality defensive ends this cycle. In-state 5-star Shameik Blackshear is already on board, and former 4-star commit Arden Key still has the Gamecocks in his lead group.
*Also, never do this. They owe you nothing.
