Gamecock Baseball TV Schedule: SEC releases TV schedule for 2014 season

The Gamecocks appear on TV for seven regular season SEC games in 2014, a surprisingly low number.

The SEC released its regular season conference baseball schedule on Thursday afternoon, and the Gamecocks feature in seven eight of the conference's over 70 televised contests.

The conference placed five teams in the pre-season top 25 poll, and the fact that South Carolina only plays two of those teams (it avoids LSU and Mississippi State, and obviously does not play itself) may have led to the fact that the Gamecocks only feature seven eight times on television, as compared to LSU, who shows up 13 times on the back of its run to Omaha last season.

Below is a listing of the seven times South Carolina plays on television in conference.  Other out-of-conference games may also end up on television; potential television for those games will be announced at a later time.

Date Game Time Network
Saturday, March 22, 2014 South Carolina @ Kentucky 2pm FSN
Thursday, April 03, 2014 South Carolina @ Arkansas 8pm ESPNU
Saturday, April 19, 2014 South Carolina @ Auburn 5pm CBSCSN
Sunday, April 20, 2014 South Carolina @ Auburn 2pm CSS
Saturday, April 26, 2014 Alabama @ South Carolina 2pm ESPN
Sunday, April 27, 2014 Alabama @ South Carolina 1pm ESPN
Saturday, May 03, 2014 South Carolina @ Georgia 1pm CSS

Saturday, May 10, 2014 Missouri @ South Carolina 3:15pm FSN

For comparison's sake, here's a breakdown of how often each team plays on television in SEC play this season.  As you can see, for one of the league's premier programs, the Gamecocks are treated no only slightly better than a middling Alabama program, and equal to or worse worse than programs with far less recent success such as Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Team Appearances
LSU 13
Mississippi St. 10
Florida 9
Ole Miss 9
Vanderbilt 9
Auburn 8
Tennessee 8
South Carolina 8
Alabama 7
Arkansas 6
Georgia 6
Kentucky 6
Texas A&M 6
Missouri 4

The team continues to practice in preparation for its 2014 season opener on Friday, February 14, in the first game of a three-game series against the Bucknell Bison in Columbia.  First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
