News broke on Monday evening that 6'6" wing Shamiek Sheppard has decided to join the South Carolina basketball program next season. He's rated the 299th-best player in the nation by the 247Sports.com composite ratings, and is the third member of Frank Martin's 2014 class, joining signees Marcus Stroman and TeMarcus Blanton.
South Carolina loses Brenton Williams to graduation, and it is highly expected that Carlton Geathers will receive a medical hardship waiver, freeing up a second scholarship. However, with a third recruit committed to the Gamecocks next season, that means at least one Gamecock with eligibility remaining will depart Columbia before his senior season. While many websites are loath to speculate, many signs point to Reggie Theus, Jr. as one of the players who will not be returning (though of course more than one player could decide to leave).
We recently wrote up the Gamecocks' entire recruiting class, as well as how they might fit into the Carolina system, in this post.
