Furman vs No. 1 South Carolina: Preview, radio, online streaming info, and more

The top-ranked Gamecocks will look to stay undefeated as they face Furman in their last game before beginning conference play.

After another weekend sweep, the 15-0 Gamecocks will face Furman in Columbia on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks are 109-54-2 against Furman all-time.

The Furman Paladins are a member of the Southern Conference and today's game is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The Paladins are off to a 6-9 start on the year.  They are hitting .284 as a team with an on-base percentage of .351.  Their team ERA is 5.20 and opponents are hitting .281 against them.

The South Carolina offense is now hitting .320 and has an on-base percentage of .409. The Gamecocks continue to pitch at a very high level, recording three more shutouts in the weekend sweep of Brown. The Gamecocks have shut out their opponent in over half of their games this season, with eight shutouts so far. The team is now only six shutouts short of tying the school record for shutouts in a season, which was set in 1975.  The Gamecocks lead the country in shutouts and are also top five in the nation in both ERA and strikeout-to-walk ratio.  The team ERA is 1.20 and opponents are hitting only .198 against the Gamecocks.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Taylor Widener will be getting his first career start for the Gamecocks. Widener has pitched 4 innings this season, has allowed four hits and no earned runs, and has 6 strikeouts and no walks. Freshman left-hander Billy Greenfield will start for the Paladins. He has a 5.40 ERA through 10 innings pitched with six strikeouts and 5 walks.

Joey Pankake (hamstring) and Max Schrock (ankle) are both likely out on Tuesday, but Coach Holbrook expressed hope that both would be back for the weekend.

Start Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Columbia, S.C. (Carolina Stadium)

The game will be available on the radio on 1320 AM for the first hour and on 107.5 The Game from 8 p.m. onward. The game will also be available via live video streaming at All-Access.
