Stetson vs. No. 3 South Carolina: Preview, game times, online streaming information, and more

Coming off of a satisfying sweep of their in-state rivals, the third-ranked Gamecocks look to stay perfect against Stetson.

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

After a weekend sweep of Clemson that was bookended by a pair of dramatic comebacks, the Gamecocks will return to action in Columbia in two mid-week afternoon games against the Stetson Hatters. South Carolina leads the all-time series against Stetson 14-2.

The Stetson Hatters hail from DeLand, Florida and are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Hatters own a lackluster 2-9 record so far on the year and enter Tuesday's game on a four-game losing streak. However, Stetson has played several good teams, including an opening series against the Ole Miss Rebels.  The 2 wins for the Hatters came against Boston College, allowing Stetson to claim the 2-1 series victory.  The Hatters have been unable to get their bats going so far on the year and are averaging less than 2 runs per game. The team batting average is .188 and the on-base percentage is .261.  The Hatter pitching staff has an ERA of 4.45 and opponents are hitting .307 against them.

The Gamecocks enter Tuesday's game with a perfect 10-0 record. The sweep of a talented Clemson team was an excellent boost to South Carolina's resume, though it was not enough to move the Gamecocks up out of the No. 3 spot in the Baseball America Top 25.  South Carolina enters its two-game series with Stetson batting .313 with an on-base percentage of .412. The Gamecock pitching staff now has an ERA of 1.60 and opponents are hitting .206 against them.

On Tuesday freshman left-handed pitcher Josh Reagan will face Stetson's Josh Powers, a junior right-hander. Reagan is one of the nine Gamecock pitchers who has yet to allow an earned run. Reagan has pitched 3.2 innings and has recorded three strikeouts and no walks.  On Wednesday senior left-hander Austin Perez will start for Stetson. No Wednesday starter has been announced for the Gamecocks yet.

A Gamecock pitching staff that has continued to impress, especially out of the bullpen, should be able to pretty well shut down a Stetson offense that has struggled so far this season.  Similarly, the Gamecock offense, which has demonstrated the ability to come up big in key situations, should be able to create scoring opportunities against the Stetson pitching staff.  South Carolina can expect to be able to handle Stetson and continue the strong start to the season as they head into their last weekend series before beginning SEC play.
