No. 8 South Carolina vs. Davidson: Preview, game time, TV info and more

The Gamecocks face Davidson at home on Tuesday night

USA TODAY Sports

After scraping out a much-needed series win at Auburn over the weekend, the Gamecocks return to action against Davidson in the first of five straight home games. South Carolina leads the overall series with Davidson 45-21-1.

Davidson is 23-10 overall, 13-3 in the Southern Conference. The Wildcats are currently on a two-game winning streak, though three of their last four games have been cancelled. Davidson won in extra innings against conference opponent UNCG last weekend before the last two games were cancelled and won a rubber game to take the series against Samford the weekend before. The Wildcats have not lost a conference series yet, and are atop the standings in the Southern Conference. Davidson is hitting .306 with an on-base percentage of .381. They have an ERA of 3.98 and opponents are hitting .253 against them.

South Carolina is 30-10 (10-8 SEC). The Gamecocks dropped in most of the polls after going 2-3 last week. Their ranking now ranges from 8th (NCBWA, ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll) to 18th (Collegiate Baseball). The Gamecocks are second in the SEC East behind Florida. The Gamecocks are hitting .282 with an on-base percentage of .355. Their ERA is 2.10 and opponents are hitting .219 against them.

The starting pitcher for the Gamecocks will be freshman right-hander Reed Scott. Scott has had eight appearances this year, but this will be his first start for the Gamecocks. Scott has been excellent through his 23 innings of work and has a 1.17 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 5 walks. Davidson will start junior right-hander Nick Neitzel. He has an ERA of 2.58 with 41 strikeouts and 17 walks. Neitzel is typically Davidson's Sunday starter, but is available tonight because he did not pitch last weekend due to the rainouts.

The Gamecocks still have a long list of injuries, but several of the hurt players made appearances in the Auburn series and appear to be recovering. Pankake (hamstring) and Bright (elbow) both played over the weekend, as did Mooney, who was out with a concussion until Sunday's game. Schrock (ankle/illness/back) and Fiori (back) did not play last weekend. Evan Beal will not pitch this week after suffering a broken nose.
