Chaz Elder was a consensus four-star prospect and the nation's 19-ranked safety in 2012.

Other major offers:
Elder had numerous big-time offers, with Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, and Ohio St. standing out.

College career:
Elder redshirted in 2012. In 2013, his role in the defense increased progressively over the course of the season. He started six games, including the final five, performing well in his role.

2014 outlook:
Elder is currently projected to start for Carolina at the free safety position. With a year of significant experience under his belt, this could be his breakout season.

Trivia:
Elder's high-school alma mater, Banneker High, produced former Gamecocks standouts Ladi Ajiboye and Carlos Thomas.
