The hits just keep on coming.
The seventh player that has committed to South Carolina - and this time at a position of real need, defensive end - just decommitted. Arden Key announced it this evening on Twitter:
I have decommited from South Carolina . Me nor my coaches will take any phone calls from the media .
— WALKING LEGEND ‼️ (@ArdenKey) January 7, 2015
Key originally committed to South Carolina in September of 2013, before he and teammate (now Gamecock) Wesley Green decommitted in September of 2013. The Gamecocks brought Green back into the fold before 2014 National Signing Day, and then appeared to corral Key once again this June.
Obviously, this continues the bleeding for the 2015 recruiting class in the wake of both a disappointing 2014 season combined with continued rumors that Steve Spurrier may not remain at South Carolina for much longer. Key is a huge loss, given that he's both a quality recruit and plays a position where Carolina really needs to improve.
We'll have more coverage of the decommitment going forward, but for now, thank God for Frank Martin.
