When he met with the media during yesterday's basketball game, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier suggested transfers would be imminent, as is usually the case following bowl season. Fullback Gerald Turner announced his transfer to Charleston Southern last month, and now another departure has been announced: rising junior defensive tackle Deon Green will leave the program. As of this writing, his destination isn't clear.

Green was a member of the 2011 class, a consensus three-star recruit who held offers from a number of programs including Penn State and Ole Miss. Green missed his first two seasons due to injury, and played sparingly in both 2013 and 2014, occasionally shifting to defensive end. But with significant depth returning at defensive tackle, Green would have faced significant competition. Green was named the Most Improved lineman last spring, but he failed to make an impact on the defensive line. (But, really, who didn't?)

Green's departure leaves five defensive tackles on the current roster: Rising seniors Gerald Dixon Jr. and Phillip Dukes; rising juniors Abu Lamin and Kelsey Griffin; and rising sophomore Taylor Stallworth. There are no defensive tackles currently committed in the 2015 class.
