Fans looking for a reason to passionately follow the South Carolina men's basketball program have been waiting for this moment for years.
Seventh Woods has officially set a date and time for his commitment. The high school senior will make his announcement a week from today on Nov. 11 at 9:45 a.m. ET from Hammond's gymnasium.
The high-flying Woods burst on the scene when this highlight reel from his freshman season at Hammond dropped on the internet. Since then, he's been profiled by Grantland (R.I.P.) and his recruitment has been meticulously followed, especially by Gamecock fans.
Woods is expected to choose between South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgetown, although the Hoyas seem to be a distant third to the Carolina schools. Woods made official visits to all three schools and even recently attended UNC's preseason celebration, "Late Night with Roy Williams." The Tar Heels were once looked at as Woods' dream school and a virtual lock to receive his talents. South Carolina head coach Frank Martin has significantly closed that gap and his program may even be considered the favorite to land Woods next Wednesday.
At the moment, Woods is ranked 35th overall by Rivals, 55th by ESPN and 56th by 247Sports. He remains the No. 1 player in the state for the Class of 2016 and a consensus four-star recruit. In his junior season at Hammond, Woods averaged 16.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.6 steals.
With the recent commitment of four-star Sedee Keita, and last year's pledges from P.J. Dozier and Chris Silva, the Gamecocks could land four, four-star recruits in the span of 14 months with the signing of Woods.
