According to a report from 247Sports and JC Shurburtt it looks like Will Muschamp will the be the next candidate to officially interview for the South Carolina job. The interview is set to take place within the next 24 hours. While Muschamp has been in contact with the University of South Carolina about the vacant head coach position, there has yet to be any official interview or negotiations.
As the former head coach at the University of Florida Muschamp went 28-21, including an 11-2 campaign in 2012 but a 4-8 season in 2013. While he consistently put together great defenses at Florida, he struggled to maintain an offensive staff, much less put out an effective offensive unit. To be more specific, Muschamp's Florida defenses never finished worse than 13th in Def. S&P+ but his offenses never finished better than 72nd in Off. S&P+.
While the potential hiring of Muschamp would likely do wonders for the putrid Gamecock defense, it will be interesting to see if he truly intends to get away from the pro-style ball control offenses that dragged his teams at Florida down.
