The Gamecocks got it done on Super Bowl Sunday, winning in Oxford, MS 77-59. The Ole Miss Rebels played Carolina closer than many opponents in recent weeks, leading as late as the 1:59 mark in the first half. However, the Gamecocks ended the half on a run and never looked back in the second.
The story of the game for Carolina was the play of Bianca Cuevas. Cuevas has gotten a bigger and bigger role in recent weeks, and she played her best game yet today, scoring 21 points and both making plays with her quick step and her outside shot. Importantly, she also had only two turnovers, showing that she's beginning to get past making freshman mistakes. Her emergence as an outside threat could pay huge dividends for Carolina, as outside shooting is the Gamecocks' relative weakness offensively.
The Gamecocks now face a daunting two-game stretch, first playing at UGA on 2/5 and then at UConn on 2/9 in what could prove to be a preview of a big post-season matchup.
