In what was likely their final game atop the polls for the time being, top-ranked South Carolina dominated Vanderbilt at home, winning 89-59. After losing to UConn earlier in the week, the Gamecocks are expected to be demoted to number two, with the Huskies retaking the top spot. That loss hasn't impeded Carolina from continuing to blaze through SEC play, though, as the Gamecocks followed the loss with blowout wins over LSU and now Vanderbilt.
Tiffany Mitchell and A'ja Wilson both scored 20 for the Gamecocks. This game was evenly contested for the first nine minutes or so, with the score knotted at 15 with around eleven to go in the first half. However, USC outscored VU 31-12 for the rest of the half and was able to coast to victory down the stretch.
USC must now travel to Arkansas this Thursday. If the Gamecocks can escape a potential trap game in Fayetteville, they'll take an undefeated SEC record into a home game against Tennessee. That game may very possibly decide the SEC regular season title.
