Name: Connor Redmond
Position: Tight End
Height/Weight: 6'4, 225 pounds
Hometown: Lawrenceville, GA
Rating: 247Sports: Three Star Rivals: Three Star ESPN: Three Star
Redmond is the second tight end in the class, with the first being Kyle Markway. He selected the Gamecocks over offers from the Kansas State Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals. His primary recruiter is listed as quarterback coach G.A Mangus.
Strengths:
Redmond has a very similar play style to Kyle Markway, with both being able to act as combo blocking and receiving tight ends. What Redmond does posses is a better ability to catch the football than Markway. Redmond was used more as a receiving tight end by his high school, which means that he has solid route running and soft hands. He is also able to use his body and out muscle defenders trying to catch the ball. He possesses above average speed, and like Markway is fairly hard to bring down on the first tackle.
Weakness:
While Redmond is a capable receiver, he will need to gain some weight to help him deal with stronger linebackers and defensive backs of the SEC. Other than that, Redmond is a good compliment to Markway.
Overall:
Like I said, Redmond is a good compliment to Markway and after this season, shouldbe a good receiving threat on the field. His abilities as a pass catcher will allow him to possibly see some action as a freshman, but I think with Markway being more developed physically, it seems more likely that Redmond will be redshirted this year.
