South Carolina Gamecocks National SIgning Day 2015: Devante Covington Commitment Profile

The former member of the 2013 class has recommitted to the Gamecocks and should be a boost to last year's unimpressive defensive line.

Name: Devante Covington

Position: Defensive End

Height/Weight: 6'4, 240 pounds

Hometown: Rockingham, NC

Rating: 247Sports: Three Star     Rivals: Two Star     ESPN: Three Star

Devante Covington was originally apart of the 2013 class, and despite not coming to South Carolina in 2013, he has decided that he wants to rejoin the team.  The Gamecocks are listed as his only offer.  He doesn't have a primary recruiter listed.  He is currently believed to have two years to play two.

Strengths:

Experience is one of the key assets for Covington.  He has spent his time since 2013 at Georgia Military College and has focused on bettering his skills and his grades so he could get to South Carolina.  While not ideal, he does posses a decent size for a defensive end.  He should be big and strong enough to deal with some of the tougher offensive linemen he will face this season.

Weaknesses:

Despite the fact that he does posses a decent frame he is somewhat slow, with a listed 40 yard dash of 4.70.  This means that he more than likely be a strong side defensive end, but with Dante Sawyer and other defensive ends capable of playing the strong side, it means Covington won't be as useful.

Overall:

After last season's performance by the defensive line, I will take anyone who will help bring new life to it.  However, I don't think that Covington will end up being used much, just because of the many other defensive ends who will be on the roster that will be somewhat more experienced or talented.
