Despite a late push in the SEC Tournament and public lobbying from Frank Martin (among others), the South Carolina Gamecocks were not selected to play in the NIT Tournament this spring. The snub leaves them looking to the CBI for any post-season basketball.
The NIT made Temple, Richmond, Colorado State and Old Dominion their top four seeds, as each looks to advance to Madison Square Garden in order to salvage their seasons. In-state rivals Charleston Southern also made the field as an eight seed.
In addition, the SEC sent two teams to the NIT above South Carolina - the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Texas A&M Aggies. Both teams defeated South Carolina in their one meeting with the Gamecocks in SEC regular season play.
Update: Spurs and Feathers confirms the Gamecocks will not participate in the CBI.
