Women's Tennis can't overcome Virginia in second round

The Gamecock's Women's Tennis team was defeated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament

The 29th ranked South Carolina Women's Tennis team was defeated by 10th ranked Virginia 4-2 in the second-round of the Charlottesville, VA regional of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

Meghan Blevins and Megen Cochran fell in the doubles tournament to Virginia's Cassie mercer and Stephanie Nauta 8-3. Danielle and Maci Epstein defeated Elixane Lechemia and Ximena Siles Luna 8-2.

In addition, Caroline Dailey and Hadley Berg had a 5-3 advantage over Virginia's Julia Elbaba and Skylar Morton when play was stopped due to rain.

The singles match between Lechemia and Elbaba was also suspended in the third set due to weather.

Caroline Dailey lost to Danielle Collins 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 at the two spot. Blevins fell to Stephanie Nauta 6-1, 6-4 at the three spot. Brigit Folland defeated Skylar Morton at the four spot 6-4, 6-3, Ximena Siles Luna lost to Maci Epstein 6-2, 6-0 at the five spot, and to round out the competition, Hadley Berg was victorious against Cassie Mercer at the six spot 6-3, 6-0.

Although the Gamecocks were defeated, the season isn't quite over for Lechemia, as she will compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament of 64 on May 20th in Waco, Texas.
