Around the nest: South Carolina Gamecocks athletics week in review and look-ahead for September 21

Bad day for football, but not so bad day for everyone else.

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

It was a tough Saturday for the South Carolina Gamecocks on the football field, but how did the other sports teams do? Let's take a look back and look ahead to what's on tap.

Men's Soccer: W 1-0 @ UAB (9/18)

Asa Kryst scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute as the Gamecocks bounced back from a 5-0 whitewashing at the hands of UNC Wilmington to open Conference USA play on a high note. It's been tough sledding for Carolina as they had been outscored 11-3 over their previous three matches before their victory over the Blazers.

Next up: vs. Elon, 9/22; vs. New Mexico (C-USA), 9/25

Women's Soccer: W 6-0 vs. Kennesaw State (9/14); W 1-0 @ Missouri

While the men's soccer team has been struggling, the nationally-ranked women's soccer team is now 2-0 in SEC play after their win over Mizzou. It will be league play the rest of the season as the ladies look to return to the NCAA tournament for the third straight year and for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. Savannah McCaskill (seven goals, 17 points) and Sophie Groff (five goals, 12 points) have provided the bulk of the scoring for Carolina.

Next up: vs. Texas A&M (SEC), 9/24; vs. Alabama (SEC), 9/27
