Garnet and Black Attack just turned 10 years old, and we think that we've shown a great deal of maturity for our age. (Well, sometimes.) Part of that is the great staff we have on board - they and their hard work make us a go-to-source for Gamecocks fans everywhere. And we'd love for you, yes, you, to be a part.
Right now, we're primarily looking for several writers to help us on general news coverage. News writers would be expected to sign up for specific slots throughout the week and keep tabs on any breaking Gamecocks news that develops - and maybe write features and profiles. As far as availability, it's flexible, but we'd prefer weekends at the very least - mornings/middays would be a huge plus.
While experience isn't necessary (we'll give you the tools you need to be successful!), a balanced, strong voice with a fairly strong knowledge of Gamecocks athletics is needed, along with the ability to write concise copy quickly (i.e. good grammar, spelling, etc.). (In other words, we love it when the team does well, but we're also looking for someone that can provide honest, concise analysis when needed - and can do so articulately.)
By the way, these are unpaid roles for now, but people who have written for SB Nation team sites have gone on to write for places like SI.com, 247 Sports, Grantland, and even moved up to write for SBNation.com, one of the most popular sports destinations on the Web. A consistent, hard-working writer could be considered for paid opportunities down the road. (Journalism students are more than welcome to apply as well!)
If you're interested, shoot a resume (and three writing samples) over to gandb.attack@gmail.com and someone will be in touch. We'd love to hear from you and look forward to seeing what you can bring to the table!
