The 2-0 South Carolina Gamecocks just gained a little momentum on the recruiting trail with Frank Martin landing one of his biggest recruits as Gamecocks head coach as guard David Beatty committed Monday evening.
The 6-3 combo guard out of Philadelphia, PA is the only four-star recruit in the Gamecocks 2017 class, but is a major steal as he is regarded as one of the best and most sought after guards in his group. 247Sports currently lists the Philly native as the 7th best guard in the nation and 6th best player out of Pennsylvania.
As recent as August, Beatty released a top five that included the likes of Maryland, Indiana, Georgetown and UConn. Nowhere were the Gamecocks to be found then, but now they’ve got the end result - a top 150 recruit. Momentum for South Carolina hasn’t been long in the making, with the Imhotep Institute standout officially visiting the school in late October only to commit a little over two weeks later. It’s clear Beatty felt something special in Columbia and in Frank Martin.
Beatty is poised to make a run for some court time his freshman year with the departure of Sindarius Thornwell and Duane Notice after the season and we’ll all be excited to get him on campus.
