The Gamecocks have pulled another upset over Tennessee this season.
After narrowing the list of schools down to two, three/four star JUCO DB Keisan Nixon seemed as if he was leaning towards selecting the Tennessee Volunteers, but has just announced today that he has chosen to come to Columbia and play for the South Carolina Gamecocks. #SpursUp, indeed.
Nixon, a native of Paramount (read: Straight Outta Compton), CA, has been with the Arizona Western Matadors since 2015. A self-described athlete, he is rated as the #21 overall available recruit in the country, and the #4 CB on the list. Nixon had a standout year, leading all of JUCO in interceptions (6) and interceptions returned for touchdowns (2). His team played for the national championship this year, ultimately losing to Kentucky’s perennial powerhouse, the Garden City Broncbusters (the greatest nickname in all of football anywhere). Look for the the team to utilize him as a lockdown corner, a pass rusher, and (potentially) as a punt returner moving forward.
He has close ties to Jamarcus King, which bodes well from a chemistry standpoint with the team moving forward (maybe he can push Jamarcus in the weight room), and he took his visit during the Western Carolina game, so he obviously saw that he could make an impact on the Carolina defense day one.
As it stands, he will enroll in January and have three years to play three.
Enjoy this pretty neat video that he posted to Twitter (some foul language):
