The South Carolina Gamecocks lost a pair of games to the Georgia Bulldogs during the regular season. Will the third time be a charm? We're set to find out on Friday night.
Georgia beat Mississippi State, 79-69, in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday. The win means that the sixth-seeded Dawgs and the third-seeded Gamecocks will meet tomorrow night at approximately 9:30pm ET in the tournament quarterfinals. The winner will take on the winner of the game before that - second-seeded Kentucky vs. tenth-seeded Alabama - in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Bulldogs took both meetings against the Gamecocks this past season. In a 69-56 win at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens on February 2, UGA was led by Yante Maten (17) and Kenny Gaines (17). In the Gamecocks' final home game a week ago, Carolina forced 19 Bulldog turnovers but couldn't stop Gaines (20) and J.J. Frazier (19) in a 74-72 affair.
Against MSU on Thursday, Frazier exploded for 28 points, including 4-9 shooting from three and a perfect 8-8 from the line. Maten dropped in 20 and recorded eight boards. Craig Sword was Mississippi State's top scorer with 19.
