The South Carolina Gamecocks’ offensive line will take a little bit of a blow for the start of the 2016 season. According to a report by The State’s Josh Kendall after the Gamecocks’ appearance at SEC Media days, sophomore Christian Pellage was charged with a DUI offense this past Friday and is set to be out of the lineup for at least a game. Pellage was released on bond and will appear before a court on August 24, eight days before the Gamecocks play the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville.
Pellage was a consensus three-star prospect on all of the major recruiting sites. He was expected to get a little more playing time or at least figure into the OL rotation as the season went on. Since it is his first offense, he should receive a relatively light punishment. However, since he is underage (19, turning 20 in January), we will have to see how the authorities, and ultimately the program, will handle things from here.
We’ll keep an eye on this story and pass along any further updates as they are made avaiable.
