Recruitment

August received scholarship by Bucknell, Dartmouth, Richmond, Southern Miss and Temple out of Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia before deciding to walk on to the Gamecocks program in January 2014.

College Career

August was one of several walk-ons or former walk-ons (Perry Orth being the main one) to be called into action last year. He played in five games (starting against UCF, Missouri and LSU), making four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Outlook

August isn’t listed on the depth chart (he’s behind Hayden Hurst and K.C. Crosby). Given the time we saw in 2015, don’t be surprised to end up in the rotation again this year, especially if one of the guys ahead of him goes down.

Potpourri

August pretty much did everything at Fork Union. According to his official bio, he lined up at tight end and WR, while being called upon as a punter and to perform placekicking duties. Wonder if he’ll get a shot at kicking a field goal before he leaves?

By the way, this is the same Jacob August that was nicknamed “Dan” by Steve Spurrier. Dan August was a sitcom that aired on ABC back in the 70s that starred Burt Reynolds.
