ESPN had Mon Denson listed as a 3-star recruit out of LaGrange, GA. While he eventually signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks, he also fielded offers from the Arkansas Razorbacks, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and the Tennessee Volunteers among others.
Denson redshirted his true freshman year in 2015.
Mon, after redshirting last season, will add needed depth to the tailback position. He will also compete for playing time as David Williams did nothing last season to assert himself as the obvious choice at running back. Only standing 5’10’’ tall, and weighing 215 pounds, Mon figures to be a load to bring down. So look for him to get the majority of his snaps in some short yardage and goal line situations.
As James mentioned in the Final Cockdown post on C.J. Freeman, the starting spot is David Williams’ to lose. However, with a good performance in summer camp, Mon could certainly find himself getting significant snaps come September 1st.
Mon Denson is what he goes by, but I’d be willing to bet you don’t know what his actual birth name. No cheating!
