Recruitment:

Matrick Belton walked on at South Carolina at the beginning of the 2014 season after considering USC and Wofford as transfer destinations. He received no major offers directly out of high school.

College Career:

Belton, a walk-on receiver from Hampton University, joined the program in 2015. Per NCAA regulations, Belton was deemed ineligible for last season, but was granted a redshirt season. Saw significant playing time last year, logging minutes in all twelve games, starting five. Finished the year with 11 receptions for 121 yards.

2016 Outlook:

While not the most prolific pass-catcher in the South Carolina Gamecocks receiving corps, Matrick Belton saw his fair share of action last season, and has certainly shown signs of his true potential in his short time on the roster. He was awarded the Most Outstanding Walk-On award at last year’s Spring Game, and played his #3/#4 receiver role very well. While we’re not entirely sure how the offensive scheme(s) that we’ll be seeing this fall translate into success for Belton, we do know his track-record of hard work and dedication, and we know that his frame is tailor-made for top notch college football. While he’s not likely to be a breakout star for the Gamecocks, at least look for multiple formations, and rotating receivers to allow him to make a considerable contribution to the offense this year.
