MJ Webb wasn’t set to commit until November, and seemed to be holding to that as he took an unofficial visit this morning. Will Muschamp and his staff had other plans, and by the end of the visit, Webb had verbally committed to the program.

Webb, a 6’2 1/2, 271-pound rising senior from Morgan County, GA, became the program’s 20th commitment from the class of 2017. A four-star recruit ranked as the #8 strongside end in the country, he joins fellow four-star Hamsah Nasirildeen as players to pledge this week. It’s another key defensive pickup for the staff - and it bears repeating that Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson (Webb’s primary recruiter) have had a keen eye in the past when it comes to getting defensive talent.
The Gamecocks have had a great last couple of weeks recruiting-wise. They beat out a late charge by Tennessee for N.C. offensive lineman T.J. Moore on August 1, followed by Nasirildeen’s pledge a few days ago and Webb’s commitment today. More good news is expected a week from tomorrow with Jamyest Williams making his decision (expected to be for South Carolina), and on September 11 when OrTre Smith unveils his choice (the Gamecocks are leading for him as well). Muschamp has quickly improved the culture around the football office with his aggressive recruiting efforts, and it’s paying off in a big way.
