Recruitment

Lewis was considered a top three JUCO player while at Hutchison Community College in Kansas and the #1 strongside defensive end. Nineteen teams, including Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma State and Tennessee extended offers, but it was the Gamecocks winning out in the end as Lewis pledged in July 2014 and enrolled six months later.

College Career

Lewis didn’t really match the output he enjoyed in junior college during his first season with the Gamecocks. While he was responsible for 18.5 sacks and 39.5 TFLs in his two seasons at Hutchison, he only recorded 3.0 sacks and 4.5 TFLs in 2015 with South Carolina. He did show some bright spots against Mizzou (eight tackles) and LSU (nine tackles, sack).

2016 Outlook

The staff, I’m sure, is salivating at the prospect of having a player like Qua Lewis bookending the line, but he’ll be used inside as well in an attempt to better play to his strengths. Under Lance Thompson, the fans should be expecting some good things from #8 in his farewell season.
