Gordon played for his father at Thomas Worthington High School in Ohio, not far up the road from Ohio State University. While he received no scholarship offers, he decided to leave the Columbus area and head further west to Miami of Ohio, where he walked onto the Redhawks football team.
Gordon transferred to South Carolina prior to the 2015 season. He took a redshirt (NCAA rules) last year and is eligible this year.
