South Carolina snagged one of the state’s top recruits in Jason Cudd on Monday. Cudd, a 7’1” center out of Socastee, gave the Gamecocks his verbal after making his official visit to South Carolina over the weekend. Cudd, who was offered back in April, also had offers from East Carolina, Western Carolina, and Tulane on the table as well.
Cudd will become the fourth 7-footer in USC history, preceded by Mike Brittain, Danny Traylor, and incoming freshman Khadim Gueye.
Cudd spoke to reporters after his visit and said that he liked everything he saw around the school and the program and felt he would be an excellent fit in Frank Martin's scheme. He averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game last season at Socastee and is continuing to his game as a big man - heavily perfecting his game around the rim and creating opportunities with his height. Scouts have said that Cudd really likes to play like a small forward.
Cudd becomes the first Gamecock commitment for the 2017 class.
