South Carolina redshirt sophomore Deebo Samuel did not dress for the East Carolina game and is out due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury that has hampered him throughout his career.

Samuel has been a non-factor in the Gamecocks’ offense thus far. In the opening game against Vanderbilt, he was held to just two catches for 36 yards, despite recording an eight-yard touchdown on a jet sweep play in the second half. Last week at Mississippi State, he only managed nine-yard and 21-yard receptions, appearing to hold up on one particular play. He would head to the sideline and later return to the contest.
The Gamecocks were counting on Samuel to boost their thin WR corps, but the in-state product hasn’t delivered as of yet as his health has held him back. He only appeared in five games last season - the first three and the final two - as a result of his original hamstring injury suffered in the 2015 season opener against North Carolina.
