Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks got some good news this afternoon. LaDazhia Williams, the #47 player in the country and the #12 forward in the 2017 according to espnW, committed to the program after an official visit yesterday. Williams, a 6’2” senior from Bradenton (Fla.) Lakewood Ranch, picked the Gamecocks over Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UConn, among others.
As a junior, Williams averaged 15.8 ppg and 6.9 rpg in 25 games. She also recorded just over two blocks a game, which should be a huge plus for the Gamecocks when she steps onto campus next fall. Williams was also a first-team all-state pick in 2015 and 2016.
The Gamecocks now have three players committed from the class of 2017. Lele Grissett, from Durham, pledged back in June, while Haley Troup verballed about a month later. With three seniors graduating in the spring, the big name that will need to be replaced out of the group is Alaina Coates, and Staley hopes that one of these three can help fill the void.
