The Gamecocks locked down another series-opening win with a close win over Michigan State.
The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning, and that score held until the fifth inning, when the Gamecocks got on the board.
Jonah Bride was safe thanks to an error, then with one out, then Madison Stokes came through with one out and blasted a home run to make it 2-1 Gamecocks.
South Carolina tacked one more run in the seventh, but while MSU made it slightly closer by adding another run, that was all they were able to muster.
Starter Clarke Schmidt worked into the seventh inning before being replaced by Colie Bowers, who went the rest of the way.
With the win, the Gamecocks improve to 10-5, while Michigan State drops to 9-3. They'll be back in action tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. Wil Crowe will start on the mound for South Carolina.
