Stop me if you’ve heard this before: the Gamecocks squandered a lead and will now have to try to avoid losing yet another SEC series.
Missouri took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but South Carolina tied the game in the second on a solo homer by Jacob Olson.
The Gamecocks took the lead in the next inning when Jonah Bride doubled to bring TJ Hopkins home. Their final run of the game came in the fifth inning when Carlos Cortes homered.
The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double, then an RBI single tied the game. A solo homer in the sixth inning put Missouri on top 4-3, then a two-out RBI base hit brought in the last run of the game.
Starter Adam Hill worked six innings before John Parke took over and went the rest of the way.
With the loss, South Carolina is now to 30-20 overall and 12-14 in the SEC, while Missouri improves to 30-21 overall and 10-16 in conference play. The rubber game is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
