Welcome to The Final Cockdown’s Tight Ends week! We go down the depth chart and take a look at a particularly deep position group for SC this season. Here’s a list of who you can expect to read about in the coming days:
#87 Kiel Pollard
Sophomore / 6’1” / Moultrie, GA. / Colquitt County
Not starting out the way he exactly wanted to, Kiel Pollard had to immediately change position groups when he joined USC. Some players fight position changes, however, the freshman welcomed the change with open arms. Unfortunately, he gained too much weight trying to bulk up for the position, and this resulted in limited playing time.
It’s going to be difficult for Pollard to get a decent amount of playing time with a great #1 TE in Hayden Hurst and a decent backup in K.C. Crosby. Both of these players will see most of the playing time on offense, and Kiel will have to fight with Jacob August for the rest of the snaps that are left behind.
Pollard’s 2016 Stats: 1 Reception, 18 Yards, 0 TD’s
Recruitment: Kiel was a three star recruit out of GA, and he had offers from big name schools such as Cal, Arkansas, and Wisconsin before he decided to become a Gamecock.
Up Next: Jacob August is in line next in the battle of the TE’s.
