Kyle Markway returns to the field following injury

After playing every game as a freshman, Markway will compete for playing time after his medical redshirt.

Welcome to The Final Cockdown’s Tight Ends week! We go down the depth chart and take a look at a particularly deep position group for SC this season. Here’s a list of who you can expect to read about in the coming days:

Hayden Hurst | KC Crosby | Keil Pollard | Jacob August | Evan Hinson | Kyle Markaway | Will Register

#84 Kyle Markway

RS Sophomore / 6’4” / 246 / St. Louis, Mo. / St. John Vianney

After a foot injury forced him to take a medical redshirt in his second year, Kyle Markway heads into his third year apart of a solid group of TEs behind Hayden Hurst and KC Crosby. Markway played in every game as a freshman, mainly on special teams. He made a few catches during his freshman campaign, bringing in three balls for 57 yards. He was also a standout off the field, making the first-year SEC academic honor roll.

The key to gaining playing time when not one of the top two or three guys in a position battle is by showing out on special teams. With plenty of experience in that role, Markway should find his way back on the field for the Gamecocks in 2017.

2016 Stats: None, medical redshirt.

Recruitment: three-star recruit; offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Memphis and South Carolina. Committed to SC on May 11, 2014.

Up Next: Freshman TE Will Register from Chapin, S.C.
