Welcome to The Final Cockdown’s Wide Receiver week! We go down the depth chart and take a look at who will be catching touchdowns from Jake Bentley this year. Here’s a list of who you can expect to read about in the coming days:
Bryan Edwards | Deebo Samuel | Terry Googer | Dreak Davis & Korey Banks | Chad Terrell | Chavis Dawkins | Ortre Smith & Shi Smith
#81 Chad Terrell
Freshman / 6’2’’ / 208 / Dallas, Ga. / North Paulding
It came down to the Oregon Ducks and the South Carolina Gamecocks, but on his official visit Jan. 21 Chad Terrell decided to stay closer to home by picking the Gamecocks to continue his football career. The North Paulding product was a dominant receiver in Georgia’s 7A classification, one of the top prep divisions in the country.
Terrell is enrolled on campus, but outside of that nothing much is known about what his role will be as a freshman. He’s cut from a similar mold as Bryan Edwards: tall, strong but not too speedy. The fourth and fifth receiver spots are still up for grabs, so it’s possible Terrell could throw his hat in the ring if fall camp goes well for him.
Then again it’s also possible he redshirts since South Carolina will have more than a dozen receivers on the roster in August. Whatever happens, you can’t argue Terrell has the tools to be very successful whenever he gets his turn.
2016 stats: 64 catches, 1236 yards, 17 TDs (High School)
Recruitment: Three-star recruit; Oregon, Appalachian State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, NC State, Pitt, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Committed to SC on Jan. 21, 2017.
Selected highlight: Here’s a tasty handful of what you can expect from Terrell once he puts on a uniform.
Up next: Chavis Dawkins, an intriguing possibility from SC prep powerhouse Byrnes.
