Davonne Bowen looks to get in the mix his first year at South Carolina

With linebacking depth thin, Bowen could work his way into the mix

Davonne Bowen

Welcome to Linebacker week! The Final Cockdown is going take this week to appreciate to breakdown a position of great importance to the Gamecock defense. Here’s a list of who we’ll go through:

Bryson Allen-Williams | Skai Moore | T.J. Brunson | Davonne Bowen | Sherrod Greene | Eldridge Thompson | Damani Staley

Davonne Bowen

Freshman / 6’1” / 224 / Piedmont, S.C. / Woodmont

Woodmont High School has been friendly to the Gamecocks as of late. Offensive tackle Malik Young came from the school nestled on the Greenville side of Piedmont and has been a productive player on the SC front line. Now, it’s Davonne Bowen’s turn to keep up the Woodmont name.

Bowen played as a hand-in-the-dirt pass rusher at Woodmont, but at SC he will be a standup linebacker who could see playing time early in his career. Bowen, Damani Staley and Brad Johnson are all true freshman linebackers who could make an early impact.

2016 Stats: N/A

Recruitment: Three-star; offers from Louisville, Maryland, Missouri and South Carolina. Committed to the Gamecocks on June 8, 2016.

Next Up: Sherrod Greene, a talented true freshman who joins a talented class of linebackers.
