The Final Cockdown continues its look at the defensive line. In case you missed it, here’s a list of everyone we’ve profiled/are profiling:

Dante Sawyer | DJ Wonnum | Daniel Fennell | Taylor Stallworth | Keir Thomas | Ulric Jones | Javon Kinlaw | Kobe Smith | Shameik Blackshear | Aaron Sterling | Brad Johnson | Aaron Thompson

#97 Kobe Smith

Sophomore / 6’2” / 297 / Lawrenceville, Ga. / Archer

It helps to have a big body on the defensive front. Kobe Smith, pushing 300 pounds, is certainly a big body, but compared to his DL mates Javon Kinlaw (326), Ulric Jones (312) and Taylor Stallworth (305), he might be considered “light” in comparison (and in fact has lost some weight since high school!). The Atlanta-area sophomore is listed behind Jones and Stallworth at defensive tackle, but he should see plenty of time in the rotation as the season progresses and could even start a few games.

Smith was part of a strong Archer program that, while still relatively new (their first team was fielded in 2010), has benefited from the influx of talent that entered from surrounding high schools in a growing North Georgia area.

2016 Stats: Four tackles in eleven games.

Recruitment: Three-star recruit according to 247Sports. A one-time Kentucky commit (he pledged to the Wildcats in July 2015), he ended up reopening his recruitment in December 2015, only to commit to and enroll at South Carolina a month later.
