The Gamecocks got thumped in their SEC home opener by Missouri, 79-68, in a contest that wasn’t as close as the score would indicate. Very little went right for South Carolina in this one, starting with Hassani Gravett’s continued absence as he recovers from an ankle sprain. The Tigers turned the game into a 3-point shootout and buried the Gamecocks from behind the arc, connecting on 13 of their 24 attempts while South Carolina went just 5 of 18. In total, the Gamecocks shot 38% overall, continuing their stretch of woeful offensive performances.

What to watch for

Vanderbilt has had a rough go of it this season as well, though they held on for a 76-75 win over Alabama their last time out. Their SEC-opening loss was an 81-74 defeat at Florida.

The Commodores feature four players who average double figures: Forward Jeff Roberson (14.9 points per game, eight rebounds), and guards Matthew Fisher-Davis (12.3), Riley LaChance (11.5), and Saben Lee (10.1). Roberson is also tied for the SEC lead in double-doubles with Georgia big man Yante Maten. The good news: Vandy is dead last in the conference for field goal percentage, shooting just 41.3% per game.
