Last game
The Gamecocks finally notched their first SEC win of the season, taking down Vanderbilt 71-60 in Columbia. Guard Wes Myers posted his best game in a South Carolina uniform, putting up 17 points, and Chris Silva had a whale of a performance with a career-high 27 points, just missing a double-double with eight rebounds. It was the kind of bounce-back result South Carolina desperately needed after two deflating losses to start conference play.
What to watch for
Alabama is coming off a 65-46 loss at Georgia, which followed a 76-75 heartbreaker at Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide did, however, thump Texas A&M 79-57, when the Aggies were ranked fifth nationally at the end of December.
Guard Collin Sexton leads Alabama and the SEC with 20.6 points per game, joined by John Petty (11.9), Donta Hall (11.4), and Dazon Ingram (11.1) in double figures. The Tide is second in the league with 6.3 blocks per game and ninth in field goal percentage defense (40.9 percent).
South Carolina hasn’t won a game in Tuscaloosa since 2009, so we’ll see if the Gamecocks can break that trend and string a couple wins together.
