South Carolina’s Parker White, Jaycee Horn earn SEC honors

The Gamecocks got some props from the league office.

Two South Carolina Gamecocks were singled out by the SEC office for their performance against Missouri, and the names will come as no surprise: Parker White was named co-special teams player of the week, while Jaycee Horn earned freshman of the week honors.

White was perfect on his extra points and nailed all three of his field goal attempts, two of them coming from a season-long 42 yards and one of them the 33-yard game-winner. That he was so accurate with a soggy field and low visibility from the sudden monsoon adds to the impressiveness of his performance.

Horn, who has already been a revelation for the Gamecocks in his young career, had three tackles and four passes defensed against the Tigers. While a couple of his pass breakups were big plays, tripping up Damarea Crockett on his way to what would’ve been a touchdown was quite literally a game-saving play for South Carolina.

Javon Kinlaw, who was honored for his performance against Vanderbilt, is the only other player of the week the Gamecocks have had so far this season.
