Last game

The Gamecocks spent a hard week on the road, first getting crushed 83-60 by Texas A&M and following that up with an 81-65 defeat at Arkansas. The effort against the Razorbacks was more competitive, but the Hawgs turned up their defensive intensity and scored 26 points off of 18 turnovers while holding South Carolina to 41.2% shooting and racking up seven blocks. Hassani Gravett led the Gamecocks with 12 points, while Kory Holden (11) and Justin Minaya (11) joined him in double figures.

What to watch for

This is the second meeting between the Gamecocks and the Gators, with the first a 77-72 South Carolina victory in Gainesville on Jan. 24. In that game, the Gamecocks were on fire offensively, sinking a season-high 11 3-pointers. Given this team’s offensive woes, especially recently, it’s hard to picture that happening again. The Gators are having an up-and-down season, but are still projected to comfortably make the NCAA Tournament field. They’re coming off a 73-64 win against LSU, and usual suspects Egor Koulechov (14.2 points per game), Chris Chiozza (11.9) and KeVaughn Allen (11.3) are leading the way. South Carolina is capable of beating this team, as it has done so before, but it’s going to need to break out of this vicious slump to pull that off.
