Last game
The Gamecocks avenged a season sweep to Tennessee when they had to have a win, pulling out a 73-62 victory in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in a contest they virtually never trailed. A’ja Wilson, who missed the regular-season finale in Knoxville with vertigo, came off the bench to score 24 points and pull down 12 rebounds. Alexis Jennings was another key player for South Carolina, scoring 19 points to go with 12 rebounds. Mikiah Herbert Harrigan’s 15 points rounded out the monster effort from the Gamecocks’ frontcourt.
What to watch for
South Carolina defeated Georgia in their only meeting earlier this season, downing the Bulldogs 77-65 in Athens in a well-rounded effort led by Ty Harris, A’ja Wilson, and Alexis Jennings. The 19th-ranked Bulldogs, who also had a double-bye to start the SEC Tournament, took down 14th-ranked Missouri 55-41 on Friday night in a bit of an upset. (And given the drama that has surrounded South Carolina’s games against the Tigers this year, the SEC probably breathed a sigh of relief.) This is the Bulldogs’ first appearance in the semifinals since 2013.
