The Gamecocks cruised past third-seeded Georgia 71-49 in the semifinals, burying the Bulldogs with a 56.5% shooting performance. A’ja Wilson came off the bench again in this one, but had a typically dominant showing with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Doniyah Cliney and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, who has had a great SEC Tournament so far, added 14 points each. With the victory, the Gamecocks set an SEC Tournament record with 11 consecutive wins, breaking the previous mark of 10 set by Tennessee.
What to watch for
This is third year in a row that South Carolina and Mississippi State will meet with the SEC Tournament title on the line. The top-seeded and second-ranked Bulldogs beat the Gamecocks in the teams’ previous meeting this season, coming away with a 67-53 win in Starkville, Miss. South Carolina got off to a strong start and led for much of the game, but MSU went on a 13-0 run to open the fourth quarter and the Gamecocks couldn’t muster a response. This should be another exciting, competitive chapter in what has become a marquee matchup in women’s basketball.
