Chris Silva scored 21 points with 11 rebounds and four other Gamecocks hit double figures as South Carolina held off 14th-seeded Ole Miss 85-84, avenging a regular-season loss to the Rebels. The Gamecocks struggled from the free-throw line, leaving 15 points on the floor, but made 12 of their 21 3-pointers and shot a respectable 46.6% from the field against the SEC’s worst scoring defense. Frank Booker (21 points, six 3-pointers), Justin Minaya (16 points), Maik Kotsar (14), and Wes Myers (10) also stood out for the Gamecocks, who bolstered their case for the NIT by capturing their first SEC Tournament win since 2015.
What to watch for
The Gamecocks fell to Arkansas 81-65 in Fayetteville earlier this season, when South Carolina was in the midst of its six-game losing streak and getting pummeled in virtually all of those losses. South Carolina’s on more solid footing now, but Arkansas is an NCAA Tournament team that ranks first in the SEC in field goal percentage (48.1%) and 3-point percentage (40.2%), and second in scoring offense (82 points per game). Led by Jaylen Barford (17.9 ppg) and Daryl Macon (17.1 ppg), the Hogs will be tough to beat.
