Game of the Week
No. 2 Clemson (1-0) at Texas A&M (1-0)
2 p.m. Saturday (ESPN)
I’m not bullish on the Aggies in this one — Clemson likely rolls — but they are playing at home, and maybe Jimbo Fisher can cook up something a little special based on his familiarity with the Tigers. Either way, I’ll temporarily forgive A&M for their “rival” status and hope they pull off the epic upset.
Full schedule
No. 18 Mississippi State (1-0) at Kansas State (1-0)
Noon (ESPN)
This is intriguing, especially since we’ll get our first look at Joe Moorhead’s Bulldogs offense against FBS competition. K-State struggled in its opener, squeaking by FCS South Dakota 27-24, but Bill Synder is an immortal wizard capable of conjuring up some crazy outcomes.
Nevada (1-0) at Vanderbilt (1-0)
Noon (SECN)
This is another interesting out-of-conference matchup, and personally, I’d love to see South Carolina schedule a West Coast team like this. Colin Kaepernick ain’t walking through that door for Nevada, though, and the ‘Dores are double-digit favorites.
Arkansas State (1-0) at No. 1 Alabama (1-0)
3:30 p.m. (ESPN2)
Enjoy that pay day, Red Wolves.
Southern Illinois (1-0) at Ole Miss (1-0)
4 p.m. (SECN)
A week after pasting Texas Tech in a game that predictably featured no defense whatsoever, the Rebels get their cupcake.
East Tennessee State (1-0) at Tennessee (0-1)
4 p.m. (SECN)
The Vols get the chance to lick some wounds after catching a beatdown from their redneck cousins at West Virginia.
Southeastern Louisiana (0-1) at No. 11 LSU (1-0)
7 p.m. (ESPN2)
Another delayed cupcake, this time for a victorious Tigers squad that utterly exposed Miami in Week 1.
Wyoming (1-1) at Missouri (1-0)
7 p.m. (ESPNU)
Okay, seriously, I’m jealous of the interesting OOC scheduling that South Carolina’s division mates have been up to. If USC’s brass ever gets too worried about attendance, maybe put something new on the menu besides the same handful of in-state FCS teams.
Alabama State (1-0) at No. 7 Auburn (1-0)
7:30 p.m. (SECN)
Another set of Tigers gets to have some dessert after a big weekend: Auburn outlasted Washington in a top-10 battle that may have diminished the Pac-12’s hopes at a playoff bid.
Kentucky (1-0) at Florida (1-0)
7:30 p.m. (SECN)
The other SEC East matchup today is a big one in its own right. Will the Gators win their improbable zillionth straight game against the Wildcats? Can’t wait to find out. (Not really, but also, yeah, I kind of mean that.)
Arkansas (1-0) at Colorado State (0-2)
7:30 p.m. (CBSSN)
Former Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is having a rough go of it at Colorado State, which just suffered another big loss to the rival Buffs.
