South Carolina (10-10, 5-2 SEC) at Georgia (10-10, 1-6)

The Gamecocks faced off against No. 1 Tennessee for (unfortunately) the first time this season, and after a battle through the first half, came away with a resounding 92-70 defeat. As the nature of the opponent would suggest, it wasn’t a loss worth getting terribly upset about; the Volunteers are just a much deeper and more talented team with a diversity of scoring options. It was good to see Chris Silva continuing his strong play, however, as he led all scorers with 28 points, and Tre Campbell had a nice performance with 14 points. Other than that, there wasn’t much else to see here.
What to watch for
The Bulldogs, under new coach Tom Crean, are not exactly off to a rip-roaring start. Although it shares the same overall record as South Carolina, Georgia is just 1-6 in conference play, having only beaten a struggling Vanderbilt squad. In fairness, though, the Bulldogs have played Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, and LSU so far, and they topped Texas in the Big 12/SEC Challenge last week. Statistically speaking, the Gamecocks and Bulldogs are pretty even — both teams average scoring around 75 points per game, give up around 74, and have similar shooting percentages from the field (43 percent for USC, 46 for UGA). However, Georgia averages an astonishing 41 rebounds per game, so this should be an intense battle for boards. Three average double figures for the Bulldogs, led by Rayshaun Hammonds and Nicolas Claxton’s 12.9 points and rounded out by Tyree Crump’s 10.3.
