Entering just Week 2 of the season, the South Carolina Gamecocks remain in relatively good health after their loss to North Carolina in Charlotte, with one major exception we’ve all been talking about. Former and oft-injured cornerback Akeem Auguste will guide you through this week’s injury report, which shouldn’t contain any surprises, but is still a bit of a bear.
Zero Augustes - Full go!
One Augustes - Should play, but won’t start
Two Augustes - Game-time decision
Three Augustes - Questionable
Four Augustes - Unlikely
Five Augustes - Out
Jake Bentley — Five Augustes
As has been well publicized at this point, the senior quarterback is on the shelf for at least 4-8 weeks after suffering a fractured foot at the end of the season-opening loss to the Tar Heels. It’s not yet known whether Bentley will need surgery, and if so, he’ll be officially out for the rest of the season.
Keir Thomas — Five Augustes
The senior defensive lineman remains sidelined with an ankle issue and could return for next week’s tilt against Alabama.
Aaron Sterling — Two Augustes
The junior defensive end had surgery in the offseason and has been experiencing some swelling in his repaired knee, but should be good to play tomorrow.
Randrecous Davis — Zero Augustes
The junior wide receiver missed Week 1 with an undisclosed injury, but all indications are that he’s ready to go.
OrTre Smith — Zero Augustes
The sophomore wide receiver who had a promising freshman campaign dealt with knee surgery for a genetic condition in the offseason, which further limited him in the spring and fall. However, he should be back in black for the Gamecocks tomorrow.
A.J. Turner — Zero Augustes
The senior running-back-turned-defensive-back was a surprise scratch last week with an apparent shoulder issue, but coach Will Muschamp said he’ll be back against the Buccaneers. However, Shi Smith will continue fielding kickoffs, which had previously been one of Turner’s duties.
