South Carolina at Furman: Midweek Preview

Let’s shake off a disappointing weekend, shall we?

TheBigSpur

The South Carolina Gamecocks will try to put the bitter taste of last weekend’s series loss to Clemson out of their mouths when they face Furman tonight, traveling to play the Paladins at the Greenville Drive’s minor-league park.

The Gamecocks battled back from a Game 1 defeat to even the series with Clemson, but ultimately fell 5-2 in the rubber match to drop to 7-4 on the season. The Paladins (5-6) ran into trouble last weekend themselves, suffering a series sweep at the hands of Fordham.

Furman will send junior right-hander Matt Lazzaro (0-0, 3.38 ERA) to the mound for his second start of the season, while the Gamecocks are expected to counter with fellow junior righty Parker Coyne (0-0, 6.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 6 SO).

South Carolina leads the all-time series 117-57-2, although Furman currently has a two-game winning streak over the Gamecocks. Here’s hoping USC gets back on the right side of the scoreboard tonight against in-state competition.
